Buttock implants are specialized silicone implants used to improve the shape, size, and feel of the buttocks. Dr. Cara Downey of Heights Plastic Surgery is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Houston, Texas with nearly 15 years of experience with plastic and cosmetic surgery. Through this, she crafts many successful and life-changing butt implant surgeries every year for patients in the Greater Houston Area.
COST OF BUTT IMPLANTS IN OUR PRACTICE
Butt implants cost $5,000 – $8,000. The final price will be determined by a variety of factors such as the type of implant to be used, surgeon’s fees, or if you will combine implants with a Brazilian Butt Lift.
You will obtain a personalized, accurate quotation of your surgery costs during your initial consultation with Dr. Downey. We accept cash, personal checks, and all major credit cards.
WHAT MADE THE BUTT IMPLANTS DIFFERENT FROM BREAST IMPLANTS?
Butt implants are almost always made from silicone gel, unlike breast implants that are available in saline and silicone variants. The silicone provides a soft, yet solid form for gluteal implants that allows them to keep the same dimensions even after insertion.
Meanwhile, surgeons have to measure breast implants in terms of CC to allow them to take the natural pull of gravity into account when augmenting breasts.
HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED?
- Surgery Length
It typically takes 2 – 3 hours to insert the implants.
Butt augmentation with implants is typically performed under general anesthesia.
- Incisions and Procedure
An incision will be made along the gluteal crease (the area where both sides of your buttocks meet). This gives Dr. Downey access to both sides with just one incision, greatly reducing scarring and recovery time. The implants are placed within the layers of muscle to minimize complications such as malposition, capsular contracture, and infection. Fat grafting may be performed as needed to achieve your desired body contour.
All incisions will be closed with dissolvable sutures. Scarring is often minimal but is easily hidden due to the location of the incision.

WHAT IS THE EXPECTED RECOVERY?
Butt augmentation with implants is an outpatient procedure. Below is a timeline of what you can expect during the recovery:
24 Hours after Surgery
- You must wear a compression garment to keep your implants in place.
- Walk carefully to not displace your implants.
- Begin regular use of a seat-riser when using the toilet.
1 – 3 Weeks After Surgery
- You can resume regular showers after 2 days.
- New sitting patterns must be made to avoid putting pressure on your implants for 2 – 3 weeks.
- Try to walk normally after 1 week to help alleviate swelling and bruising.
- Do not sleep on your back for 2 – 3 weeks.
- Do not expose your sutures to direct sunlight for 3 weeks, or until the sutures dissolve and the scars whiten.
3 Months After Surgery
- You may submerge yourself in water, drive, and return to work after 4 weeks.
- Scars will whiten and continue to fade at 4 – 6 weeks. These scars are easily hidden even before they fade.
- Avoid strenuous activities such as the gym, heavy lifting, or biking for 1 – 2 months.
- Final results will appear after 3 – 6 months, with minor improvements manifesting over the next year.
