Scar Therapy in Houston, TX
Seeing your large, dark scars every day can be a reminder of your past trauma. Get rid of those reminders once-and-for-all with the help of our scar therapy treatments. Board-certified plastic surgeons, Dr. Cara Downey and Dr. Jamal Bullocks, and their expert team of professionals are proud to offer scar therapy to residents of Houston, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, and the neighboring communities in east Texas.
What is Scar Therapy?
Scar therapy at Heights Plastic Surgery refers to the minimally invasive and non-invasive, non-surgical treatments that reduce the appearance of a patient’s scars so they can live a worry-free life. Dr. Cara Downey and Dr. Bullocks offers two different scar therapy treatments including microneedling with the SkinPen® and the Silagen® scar refinement system. While each treatment can be done alone, Dr. Downey and Dr. Bullocks often recommends combining both microneedling and the Silagen® scar refinement system to produce ultimate results. Our scar therapy treatments are perfect for hypertrophic scars, keloids, acne scars, or scars caused by injury and other trauma.
How Much Does Scar Therapy Cost in Houston, TX?
The average cost of scar therapy in Houston typically starts at $1,000. The total cost for your scar therapy treatment will depend on factors such as your surgeon’s fee, the location of your procedure, and other miscellaneous medical expenses. At Heights Plastic Surgery, we accept cash and all major credit cards. We are also happy to offer financing through CareCredit® for patients. Because scar therapy treatments are typically more about cosmetic appearance and are less of a medical necessity, they are not covered by most insurance plans.
How is Scar Therapy Performed?
Your microneedling scar therapy treatments with the SkinPen® are typically done about two to four weeks apart and take under an hour to complete. These SkinPen® treatments break up the scar tissue in your treated area and boost your body’s natural production of collagen to smooth over any malformations in the skin. The Silagen® scar refinement system is a specialized scar cream system that uses medical-grade silicone and zinc oxide to even out your skin texture and pigmentation in the treated area.
What Can I Expect After My Scar Therapy Treatment?
Because both scar therapies at Heights Plastic Surgery are non-surgical procedures, there is no formal downtime or recovery period associated with your treatments. While your skin may be red and sensitive following your microneedling procedure, this typically lasts a day or two before resolving on its own. Many patients are able to see their desired results within just a few weeks of treatment, with ultimate results becoming apparent after about seven to eight weeks.
Am I a Good Candidate for Scar Therapy?
Good candidates for scar therapy treatments are in good general health and have realistic expectations of the results they can expect from their treatment. Ideal candidates for scar therapy often desire to treat the following concerns.
- Hypertrophic scars
- Surgical scars
- Keloid scars
