Top Plastic Surgery Procedures of 2018

In March 2019, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) released the data which showed the ever-increasing popularity of cosmetic surgeries as well as the new trends. The United States alone accounted for a combined 20 million surgical and minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed on men and women in 2018.

Top 5 Plastic Surgery Procedures

Between the two, only 1.8 million procedures were surgical and cosmetic, but this is still an increase compared to 2017’s 1.7 million.

So, what were 2018’s top five most popular plastic surgery procedures?

1. Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation also called augmentation mammaplasty, increases or restores the volume of the breasts. This procedure may also be used as a reconstructive technique to improve the balance of your figure and enhance your self-confidence after mastectomy.

It involves using either breast implants or fat from other parts of your body. Implants are ideal if you’re looking for a large increase in breast size. Meanwhile, fat transfer can only achieve a limited increase in size and cannot change breast shape.

Bear in mind, though, that breast augmentation alone cannot correct drooping breasts. This kind of situation calls for a breast lift procedure.

2. Liposuction

Sometimes referred to as lipo, liposuction reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat in the thighs, hips, arms, and abdomen. This procedure is ideal if you have excess body fat that does not respond to diet or exercise. However, you should be within 30% of your ideal weight. Plastic surgeons also require that you have firm, elastic skin, and toned muscles.

You also need to keep in mind that while liposuction can help contour your body and make you look slimmer, it is not a complete replacement for proper diet and exercise.

3. Rhinoplasty

ASPS defines rhinoplasty as a procedure that “enhances facial harmony and the proportions of your nose.” Moreover, it changes the size and shape of your nose in relation to facial balance. This includes:

  • Nasal asymmetry
  • Large, wide, or upturned nostrils
  • A nose bridge with visible humps or depression

Additionally, rhinoplasty also improves impaired breathing caused by structural nasal defects such as a deviated septum – a condition that makes your nasal airways uneven. However, this surgery requires careful evaluation since it involves your airflow and breathing.

4. Blepharoplasty

While loose or sagging eyelids can disturb the natural contour of your eyes, it can also impair your eyesight. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, rejuvenates the appearance of your eyelids and fixes issues you have in regards to vision.

Blepharoplasty works by treating the bags beneath the eyes, removing excess fat that causes puffiness or incising loose skin from the upper eyelids. This procedure is not meant for patients with serious eye problems – it only treats blurriness caused by excess skin or drooping eyelids.

5. Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen. It also restores weakened or separated muscles to create a smoother and firmer midsection.

Although a lot of people aim for a flat and well-toned abdomen, sometimes it cannot be achieved by exercise and weight control alone.

The results of a tummy tuck may be permanent, but it is not a substitute for weight loss or proper exercise. Additionally, it cannot correct stretch marks; they can instead be removed if part of the excised skin.

These are the common plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States in 2018. What procedure would you like to undergo to achieve the body you have always desired?
