Jamal Bullocks, MD, FACS
Dr. Bullocks is a Board Certified plastic surgeon and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He now joins Dr. Downey as the co-creator of Heights Plastic Surgery and Studio Essex Medical Spa. Dr. Bullocks has a passion for utilizing his cumulative experience, training, and study in Plastic Surgery to create inspiring changes in the lives of his patients to help them feel good about themselves and elevate confidence.
Dr. Bullocks has an interest in facial aesthetic surgery, particularly periorbital rejuvenation (browlift and blepharoplasty), Facelift procedures and Rhinoplasty. He also has extensive experience in aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring and micro-surgical breast reconstruction (DIEP Flap Procedure). Heights Plastic Surgery has been a combined dream for Dr. Bullocks and Dr. Downey as an environment to create the most elegant, personalized, and endearing experience for clients desiring positive changes through the products of plastic surgery and advanced skincare.
He completed his undergraduate education and graduated with honors from Georgetown University. During this time he also performed extensive basic science research breast cancer research for over 6 years at the Lombardi Cancer Center. Dr. Bullocks then matriculated into medical school at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha cum laude. After medical school, he was selected to undergo surgical training at Baylor College of Medicine. There he completed his surgical internship and an integrated Plastic Surgery Residency. After residency, he traveled to Brazil to learn the more in-depth nuances of aesthetic surgery.
Dr. Bullocks’ medical career has included a multitude of leadership positions. He participated in teaching roles as an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine Department of Surgery. Then he was recruited to endure a pioneering opportunity in starting the first plastic surgery department in one of Houston’s largest multi-specialty practices. There, he also participated as a member of the breast cancer multidisciplinary team and performed thousands of specialty breast reconstruction surgeries.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bullocks has been an avid teacher and researcher in the field of Plastic Surgery. He has authored a book and written many book chapters and peer-reviewed research articles on the vast complexities of the specialty well as given lectures in plastic surgery around the world.
Outside of his Houston Plastic Surgery practice, Dr. Bullocks is the medical director and a member of the board of managers of Surgical Volunteers International (SVI). SVI is a volunteer, non-profit organization that focuses on providing free specialty surgical care to the disadvantaged in the poorest areas of the world.
Dr. Bullocks’ hobbies include fishing, mixed-martial-arts (MMA), snowboarding, and running. He also enjoys participating in various sports activities with his five children and sharing his creations from the grill with his family and friends.
