What is Botox? BOTOX® is a cosmetic injectable gel treatment primarily made from a safe toxin called botulinum type A. Similar to Dysport®, Botox is widely used to decrease the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nose, forehead, and mouth. Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles in the treated areas, causing them not to move and creating the appearance of what we like to call “action wrinkles,” or wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. While Botox can be used to treat a variety of other conditions (such as chronic migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis) Houston Botox experts, Dr. Downey and Dr. Bullocks, mainly use it to create a smooth, youthful appearance in their patients.
How much does Botox cost in Houston? The average cost of a Botox treatment in Houston typically starts at about $300. The total cost for your Botox treatment will depend on the amount of product needed to help you achieve your desired results. At Heights Plastic Surgery, we accept cash and all major credit cards. We are also happy to offer financing through CareCredit® for patients. Because Botox is often more about cosmetic appearance and is less of a medical necessity, it is typically not covered by most insurance plans.
What does a neurotoxin injection feel like? Botox, Dysport and Daxxify are in-office procedures that typically takes about 45 minutes to complete. Our nurse injectors will make a series of strategically placed toxin injections into your desired treated areas, typically around the forehead, eyes, brow, and the bridge of the nose. Because toxin is a minimally invasive treatment, there is no downtime or recovery period associated with treatment.
What results can I expect from Botox? It is normal to experience some redness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising around your treated areas. These side effects will typically subside on their own within 24 to 48 hours of treatment. While you may see some results of your Botox treatment immediately, ultimate results will take about four to seven days to be completely visible. Because Botox is a minimally invasive treatment, patients are able to return to their normal daily activities – including work – immediately following treatment. Botox treatments typically last for three to four months at a time. Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks may recommend coming in for regular Botox® treatments every four months to maintain your desired results.
Am I a candidate for Toxin? At Heights Plastic Surgery, good candidates for neurotoxins experience the following concerns: Fine lines and deep wrinkles across the forehead Crow’s feet, or wrinkles around the outer eyes Frown lines, or deep wrinkles between the brows Bunny lines, or fine lines on the upper bridge of the nose Ideal candidates for toxin are in good general health and have realistic expectations of their potential results. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for Botox®, Dysport® , or Daxxify® is to schedule your private consultation with Dr. Downey, Dr. Bullocks, or our nurse injectors.

What is the difference between Botox, Dysport and Daxxify? Botox® was the first FDA approved neurotoxin for wrinkle reduction. It has a smaller spread of product, which means it’s more potent making it amazing for smaller areas. Botox® kicks in within 7-10 days of treatment, but final results are seen 14 days after. With the FDA approved dosing, Botox® can last up to 3-4 months. Dysport® has a larger spread of product, often reporting that the effects are more natural. It takes about 5 days to kick in, but final results are seen 14 days after. With the FDA approved dosing, Dysport® can last up to 3-4 months. Daxxify® is the newest neurotoxin out in the market. Studies have shown that it is a faster-acting and longer-lasting botox alternative. Daxxify® is the only neurotoxin powered by peptides making it kick in quicker and last at least 4-8 weeks longer than other FDA approved neuromodulators. It has even been reported to improve skin quality.
