What is a rhinoplasty? Rhinoplasty, otherwise known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure in which a cosmetic surgeon reshapes a patient’s nose. The reshaping may be performed for necessary medical reasons to correct breathing issues, or merely to improve the overall appearance of the nose for aesthetic purposes. A rhinoplasty procedure will differ according to each patient’s specific situation. During rhinoplasty Houston plastic surgeons, Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks can change the size and width of the nose, correct humps on the bridge, alter the nasal tip, change the size and shape of nostrils, and fix any asymmetry or septum deviation. Oftentimes, the patient will also experience trouble breathing or chronic congestion.
How much does a rhinoplasty in Houston, TX cost? The average cost of your rhinoplasty in Houston typically ranges between $8,000 and $15,000. The total cost for your rhinoplasty will depend on factors such as your surgeon’s fee, the location of your procedure, and other miscellaneous medical expenses. At Heights Plastic Surgery, we accept cash and all major credit cards. We are also happy to offer financing through CareCredit® for patients. Because rhinoplasty is often more about cosmetic appearance and is less of a medical necessity, it is typically not covered by most insurance plans.
How is a rhinoplasty performed? Before your rhinoplasty Houston practitioner will administer either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation. The surgeon makes incisions inside the nose or across the tissue that separates the nostrils depending on the nature of the specific surgery. They sculpt the structure of the nose to the proper shape, drape skin and tissue back over, and close the incisions. The surgeon uses splints and tubes to support the nose during the healing process and we generally remove these after a week. The swelling will come and go for several weeks, and a majority of the swelling will go down about 2 months after the nose job.
What can I expect during my rhinoplasty recovery? Following their rhinoplasty Houston patients often experience swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes for the first 7 to 10 days following their rhinoplasty procedure. Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks may provide you with prescription medication that can help manage your pain. Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks and their team will ask that you keep your head elevated when laying down for the first 2 weeks following your rhinoplasty. Patients are typically cleared to return to work and regular daily activities about 1 week following their rhinoplasty. While you will be able to see some results of your rhinoplasty once we remove your cast and splint. Ultimate results will appear once all incisions are healed and swelling subsides, about 6 to 8 months later.
Am I a good candidate for a rhinoplasty? We only suggest a nose job for patients who have realistic expectations for improving their nasal appearance and who are 13 years of age or older. Ideal Houston rhinoplasty candidates are also non-smokers and are otherwise physically healthy, allowing for proper healing after the nose job procedure. Also, keep in mind that Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks should have an idea as to why you want to undergo the procedure. For example, surgery to improve a blocked airway will require special attention and careful evaluation.
