What is a chin implant? Improving someone’s physical appearance is possible thanks to the numerous advances in cosmetic science. One way to boost your physical appearance is to undergo chin implant surgery. The shape of your chin enhances your overall facial features and balances the appearance of your nose. Mentoplasty, otherwise known as chin surgery, can alter the shape of your chin by using a special implant to add shape to the chin, increase the projection of the chin, or augment the underlying bone of the chin. For smaller changes, an implant may be ideal. However, for more dramatic change, cutting, moving, and placing a titanium plate to hold the bone in a new position is often required.
How much does a chin implant cost in Houston? The average cost of your chin implant surgery in Houston typically ranges between $4,500 and $6,000. The total cost for your Houston chin implant surgery will depend on factors such as your surgeon’s fee, the location of your procedure, and other miscellaneous medical expenses. At Heights Plastic Surgery, we accept cash and all major credit cards. We are also happy to offer financing through CareCredit® for patients. Because a chin implant is often more about cosmetic appearance and is less of a medical necessity, it is not covered by most insurance plans.
How does chin surgery work? Before your chin implant surgery begins, we will administer a general anesthetic. This is to ensure you are as comfortable and pain-free as possible throughout the entirety of your procedure. Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks will then make a small incision on the inside of the mouth between the bottom lip and gums, or on the underside of the chin. Through this incision, we will carefully place the soft, chin implant. Once the chin implant is in its correct position, Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks will stitch up your incisions and bandage your surgical area. The entire surgical procedure typically takes between 30 minutes and one hours to complete.
What should I expect when recovering from a chin surgery? Following a chin implant Houston patients often experience swelling and bruising around the treated area for the first seven to 10 days following their chin implant surgery. Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks may provide you with prescription medication that can help manage your pain. In addition to icing consistently for the first 48 hours following your procedure, Dr. Downey or Dr. Bullocks and their team will ask that you keep your head elevated when laying down for the first two weeks following your chin implant procedure. Patients are typically cleared to return to work and regular daily activities about one week after their chin implant surgery. While you will be able to see some results of your chin implant surgery immediately, ultimate results will appear once all incisions are healed and swelling subsides.
