What is Botox?

BOTOX® is a cosmetic injectable gel treatment primarily made from a safe toxin called botulinum type A. Similar to Dysport®, Botox is widely used to decrease the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the eyes, nose, forehead, and mouth.

Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles in the treated areas, causing them not to move and creating the appearance of what we like to call “action wrinkles,” or wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions. While Botox can be used to treat a variety of other conditions (such as chronic migraine headaches and hyperhidrosis), Houston Botox experts Dr. Downey and Dr. Bullocks mainly use it to create a smooth, youthful appearance in their patients.

What aesthetic issues does Botox address?

Botox isn’t just for frown lines. It’s great for smoothing out a bunch of those little signs of aging that sneak up over time:

  • Forehead Lines: These appear when we raise our eyebrows, and Botox helps relax the muscles so the lines don’t stay.
  • Frown Lines (Between the Brows): If you’ve ever been told you “look mad” when you’re not, these lines might be the reason. Botox softens them.
  • Crow’s Feet: Those tiny lines at the corners of your eyes when you smile? Botox helps soften them without taking away your smile.
  • Bunny Lines: These are the little scrunch lines on the nose. Botox can smooth them out for a cleaner look.
  • Lip Lines: Also called smoker’s lines—tiny vertical lines around the mouth that can get more noticeable with age.
  • Chin Texture: If your chin looks bumpy or dimply when you talk or smile, Botox can help even it out.
  • Neck Bands: Those vertical lines that stand out when you tense your neck? Botox can soften them, too.

Where on the body can you get Botox?

Most people think Botox is just for the face, but it can be used in a few other spots, too:

    • Jawline (Masseter Muscles): Helps slim the face and can even ease jaw tension or teeth grinding.
    • Neck: Great for softening those vertical bands that can make the neck look older.
    • Underarms, Palms, and Feet: Botox can actually help reduce excessive sweating in these areas.

Am I a candidate for Botox?

At Heights Plastic Surgery, good candidates for neurotoxins experience the following concerns:

  • Fine lines and deep wrinkles across the forehead
  • Crow’s feet or wrinkles around the outer eyes
  • Frown lines or deep wrinkles between the brows
  • Bunny lines or fine lines on the upper bridge of the nose

Ideal candidates for toxin are in good general health and have realistic expectations of their potential results. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for Botox®, Dysport®, or Daxxify® is to schedule your private consultation with Dr. Downey, Dr. Bullocks, or our nurse injectors.

What to Expect

Before, During, & After Botox in Houston

1. Attend a One-on-One Consultation.

Prior to your Daxxify, Dysport or Botox Houston patients will first meet with a Studio Essex provider for a one-on-one consultation. We take the time to get to know you—your goals, medical history, skin type and tone, face shape, and more.

2. Approve Your Treatment Plan.

Our staff will collaborate with you and your individual case to best advise you on the ideal options for addressing your wrinkles. We build a highly personalized treatment plan that may include a combination of wrinkle relaxers (like Botox, Dysport, or Daxxify) and dermal fillers to achieve the best possible results.

3. Getting Toxin.

Using a very fine needle, your highly skilled injector will artfully and skillfully inject Botox, Dysport or Daxxify into the muscles causing your wrinkles. Each neurotoxin is different and results vary from patient to patient. With Botox, although you may notice results within the first 4-7 days after treatment, the full results take effect after 14 days, and can last up to 90 days (results may vary depending on patient). With Dysport, you may notice results within the first 2-4 days, but full results can be seen 10-14 days after. Daxxify is the newest toxin out in the market. With Daxxify, some patients start seeing results the very next day, and results can last up to twice as long as all other neurotoxins.

4. Follow Up.

Following your Botox Houston patients are encouraged to pre-schedule your 90 day follow-up. Your provider may also recommend other procedures to enhance and complement the effects of your initial wrinkle relaxing treatment.

Botox Recovery

There’s really not much to it, which is why people love it. You can walk out of your appointment and go straight back to your day. That said, here are a few things to keep in mind right after:

  • Try not to touch or rub the treated areas for the first day.
  • Stay upright for a few hours.
  • Skip your workout, sauna, or happy hour that day to give your body a chance to settle.

Most people feel totally normal, and if there’s any redness or swelling, it’s usually super mild and gone within a day or two.

Botox Results

You might notice a little change in the first few days, but it takes about 7 to 14 days to see the full effect. Once it kicks in, results usually last about 3 to 4 months. If you love the way it looks, regular treatments can keep your skin looking smooth longer without having to start from scratch each time.

Botox Aftercare

Want your results to stick around as long as possible? Here’s what can help:

  • Stay hydrated and keep your skin moisturized.
  • Use sunscreen—sun damage can undo all your good work.
  • Skip intense workouts just for the first day or two.
  • Keep up with touch-ups every few months to keep your look consistent.

How much does Botox cost?

The average cost of a Botox treatment in Houston typically starts at about $300. The total cost for your Botox treatment will depend on the amount of product needed to help you achieve your desired results.

At Heights Plastic Surgery, we accept cash and all major credit cards. We are also happy to offer financing through CareCredit® for patients. Because Botox is often more about cosmetic appearance and is less of a medical necessity, it is typically not covered by most insurance plans.
